In the information age, the barriers just aren’t there. The barriers are self imposed. If you want to set off and go develop some grand new thing, you don’t need millions of dollars of capitalization. You need enough pizza and Diet Coke to stick in your refrigerator, a cheap PC to work on, and the dedication to go through with it. We slept on floors. We waded across rivers.

Thijs Putman

Thijs is one of StudyPortals´ founders; within the company he is responsible for everything “IT”. After personally developing the initial version of the MastersPortal.eu website, he currently oversees the development of all StudyPortals´ websites and manages the company´s technical infrastructure.

Thijs holds a Master´s degree in Business Information Systems from Eindhoven University of Technology. During his Master´s, Thijs focussed on the development of web-based information retrieval systems. His graduation project concerned empirical research on the performance of online recommender systems; the results of which were used to implement the recommender system on the MastersPortal.eu website.

Thijs gained project-management experience through his position as the IT committee leader of ESTIEM, an international student organisation representing 47,000 Industrial Engineering students from 26 European countries.

Favourite StudyPortals Element/Experience

When we first started with StudyPortals (MastersPortal back then) we worked out of Edwin´s living room; the website ran on two old desktop computers housed in my “kitchen”. It is amazing to see how much we have achieved over the past few years and to realise how much more we can achieve the coming years…
