‘When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds: Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.’ –  Patanjali

Oana Calota

Job summary/responsibilities

Oana understands the challenges that higher education institutions in Central and Eastern Europe face and works hard to help them build an effective and rewarding marketing strategy. She is determined to bring clarity and transparency to this diverse pond of wealthy study opportunities and to increase the international visibility of an impressive unexplored education potential. Oana also hopes to offer students worldwide the chance to choose the right degree programme that will nurture their curiosity and answer their personal and professional interests and needs. She makes sure the information about the programmes is accurate and easy to access by all students looking for study courses on StudyPortals.

General background

Oana’s career path is not the regular unidirectional one. The reason could be found in the way she looks at life. She believes that experimenting, taking risks and learning from mistakes might not sound like the winning jackpot, but it is surely the formula for success, in the long run. She started her career in the serious environment of banking, and continued her journey through the challenging world of marketing. She switched 360, when she decided to combine traveling with working on an entrepreneurial project. She has done her best to know herself by exploring the world around her and managed to create opportunities where she couldn’t find any.

This is how one of her stories started in 2012, when she embarked on a ‘dangerous’ adventure to make things right: a life-changing volunteering experience in Oslo, which further cultivated her self-awareness. The word ‘to offer’ became her mantra. The next step was to fill continental Europe (Portugal, Germany, Tenerife, Croatia, etc) with beautiful hand-made jewellery, by helping a small national business become known abroad. Armed only with her fearlessness, a never-give-up attitude and her faith in others, Oana was determined to cruise, to work and to have fun, without losing track of any of the lessons learned. Her international expertise, combined with her positive attitude and her experience in promoting a good cause led her to a University Advisor position at StudyPortals, in 2014, which perfectly fit her desire to help others.

Key challenge

The next profession related challenge would be to effectively use her creativity in order to present the message of universities as accurately as possible, for the benefit of the international student community. She will go the extra mile to make sure universities in Central and Eastern Europe share their contribution of insight, experience and values to all corners of the world. She will gladly be the students’ guide to their self-development abroad, offering her own contribution to taking them further.

Favourite activities

Oana’s greatest passion is travelling and she is determined to see the whole world or die trying. She enjoys playing tennis and expressing herself through art. She places great value on integrity and open-mindedness. She also enjoys the simple things in life, like apiculture, gardening and spending time in nature.

However, one thing compels her the most – helping others to find and reach their dreams. She always tries to have a positive influence on her surroundings. In addition to preparing sushi for her friends and convincing people to have their own impact on the world, Oana found at StudyPortals a place where she can have a positive and meaningful influence on people, while following her passions.
