Job summary/responsibilities:

Promote and implement DevOps culture: integrated configuration management, automate everything, infrastructure as code, configuration as code, continuous integration/deployment, etc.

General introduction/background:

Hello, everyone, you can call me Brian. I am in the role of DevOps engineer; the most important task is to promote the DevOps culture in StudyPortals. Let me take the chance to quote Wikipedia regarding DevOps (probably the best explanation around): “DevOps (a clipped compound of development and operations) is a culture, movement or practice that emphasizes the collaboration and communication of both software developers and other information-technology (IT) professionals while automating the process of software delivery and infrastructure changes. It aims at establishing a culture and environment where building, testing, and releasing software can happen rapidly, frequently, and more reliably.”

I’m also responsible to provide the infrastructure to all developers, which includes but not limited to: cloud resources, cloud configurations, development tools, knowledge to use development tools, bootstrapping development framework with software architect. Since we are very happy with AWS, I spend a lot of time on it.

I’m from China, studied information management and information system as my Bachelor’s degree in China. After that a Master degree in Operations Researches in Maastricht University. Joined StudyPortals in July 2015, since then the landscape of compute infrastructure of StudyPortals has changed greatly, I am very happy to be one of the people driving this change.
