STORY – Strengthening the Training Opportunities for International Youth

One of the major challenges of today’s young graduates is the unsustainably high youth unemployment rate in many EU countries. At the same time, experience abroad and work experience are criteria highly valued by employers, thus learning mobility seems to be the key priority to improve the employability of young people.

The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is conducting the STORY (Strengthening the Training Opportunities for International Youth) project, an EU funded project that aims at improving the accessibility and quality of international traineeships, as well as at increasing the awareness on the existence of such opportunities for youth.

In order to achieve this, a research on the subject through online questionnaires is currently committed. STORY Survey 2014 will not only analyse the accessibility and quality of study and training mobility programmes but will also survey obstacles, especially the ones related to recognition, and expectations observed by the main actors involved in mobility for studies and traineeships (Students, Higher Education Institutions, National Agencies and Receiving Companies/Organisations). Through the analysis of the responses to the questionnaires, ESN will offer a more accurate and detailed representation of the obstacles and expectations of the main actors involved, and also offer some advice regarding best practices. In addition, supporting information will be disseminated through the project website (storyproject.eu).

Finally, STORY will contribute with an online platform ERASMUS INTERN which will provide an integrated marketplace that aims at bringing together training providers and individuals seeking a training opportunity abroad. This platform will enhance students’ international opportunities on the European job market.

We believe that our work encourages mobility and improves the quality of exchanges of young people in Europe and beyond.
