Client Stories: University of Nottingham & Studyportals dashboard

As competition in university marketing and international student recruitment is increasing, targeting prospective students by country is not sufficient anymore. Instead, universities need to focus more on reaching the right students, by promoting their study programmes in the right regions – even the right cities. This is particularly important when recruiting international students from large countries, such as India, where students from Chennai might be interested in different study programmes than students from New Delhi.

Our Analytics & Consulting team has developed a live dashboard that enables to see such differences; both on a country and city level. The data is derived from the 29 million students who use Studyportals each year to find a study programme abroad. The generated data has proven to be an accurate reflection and projection of the higher education market. The dashboard visualises this data and enables universities to make informed decisions by having insights on topics as:

  • What are the disciplines that students are most interested in?
  • Where are these students from? From which countries and which cities?
  • How is the demand for study disciplines distributed among different countries?
  • What are the most favoured countries for studying a particular discipline?

In the video, the University of Nottingham explains how they use the customised dashboard for their international student recruitment strategy. Not only does the data show the interest from international students to study in the UK, they were also able to see the impact of Brexit on their student enrolments since the referendum.
