About EFMD

is a global, membership driven organisation, based in Brussels, Belgium. As the largest international network association in the field of management development, the EFMD network includes over 860 institutional members and reaches over 25,000 management development professionals from academia, business, public service and consultancy across 82 countries worldwide.

The overall mission of EFMD is to act as a catalyst to promote and enhance excellence in management development globally. EFMD plays a central role in shaping an international approach to management education and is a unique forum for information, research, networking and debate on innovation and best practice in management development.

EFMD fulfills this mission by offering a range of services which have been developed over the last 40 years to meet the needs of its members. These include conferences and seminars around the world that address key issues for our industry, surveys and the dissemination of knowledge, quality improvement and accreditation via EQUIS, EPAS and CLIP as well as the EFMD Deans Across Frontiers mentoring programme (EDAF) and Business School Impact System (BSIS).

EFMD Accreditation Systems for Management Education

Value of EQUIS and EPAS accreditations.

EFMD_EQUIS_Accredited.svgEQUIS – EFMD Quality Improvement System – was founded in 1997. It is now the leading international system for quality assessment, quality improvement and accreditation of business and management institutions/schools. It focuses on all the activities within a business school that aims to meet international standards of quality. EQUIS is designed to provide recognition and advice to whole institutions such as business schools and university faculties of business and management. It evaluates all the activities of the institution including degree programmes, research, e-learning units, executive education provision and also its approach to ethics, responsibility and sustainability. It also evaluates the quality of resources available such as the faculty and support staff, and the learning infrastructure provided for students such as teaching accommodation and IT/library support.
Its approach to quality assessment is rooted in respect for diversity of institutional and cultural contexts. EQUIS promotes no “one best model” for a business school and it does not expect standardisation of degree programmes, course content or delivery modes. Nevertheless, it does require an international dimension in most activities, a strong interface with the corporate world, and an ethos of promoting responsible management.

 EPAS_logo13-HREPAS – EFMD Programme Accreditation System – was founded in 2005 and is designed as a quality enhancement process for particular programme within an institution. EPAS mission is the enhancement of student learning within business and management programmes. It achieves this by evaluating the quality of any business and/or management degree programme that has an international perspective and, where of an appropriately high quality, by accrediting it.

The EPAS standards ensure that programmes are designed and delivered so that they are both academically rigorous and have practical relevance. EPAS ensures that programmes are designed and delivered to broaden students’ minds, deepen their thinking, and enable them to carry out critical analyses within a profound knowledge of the theories and practice of business and management. Programme outcomes will not only include the knowledge acquired but also the ability to communicate ideas and analyses, and to motivate and manage other people.
